Recommendations after removing the bracket system?

We congratulate you on the end of your orthodontic treatment! From today, the retention period begins - consolidation and preservation of the achieved results.

To do this, the orthodontist has fixed on your teeth and/or handed out special devices - retainers.

Fixed retainer for upper and lower jaw?

This is a thin arc made of special wire, fixed on the inner surface of the teeth (usually from canine to canine) on a composite material.

For quality dental care in the area of fixed retainers, use dental floss (SuperFloss) and an irrigator.

Removable retention device in the form of a plate, mouth guard or two-jaw device?

Mode of use (unless otherwise instructed by the attending physician):

• the first year - every day for 8 hours a day (during sleep),
• the next 6 months - through the night,
• the next six months - 2 times a week,
• after 2 years - once a week for control.

Control:when installing the retainer, there should be no perceptible pressure on the teeth. If it appears, it means that the teeth are slightly displaced. In this case, it is necessary to leave the retainer overnight and retest after 1 week.

Removable device care?

• after wearing, clean it daily with a brush and paste,
• rinse with room temperature water before use,
• Treat once a week with special tablets / solutions "for cleaning removable orthodontic appliances" (for example, ROCS, President, Curaprox, Lacalut) according to the instructions,
• store in a clean container,
• try not to lose the device, protect it from mechanical deformation.

It is important to know: the retainer should be on both the upper and lower jaw. The absence of retainers is unacceptable - the teeth may return to their original position.

We recommend

• Wear removable retainers in the specified mode.
• 1 time in 6 months to undergo the procedure of professional oral hygiene in the clinic.
• 1 time in 6 months to undergo a follow-up examination by your orthodontist (changes in the dentoalveolar system occur throughout life, so it is important to control the stability of the result).
• Every day, when brushing your teeth in the evening, inspect the integrity of non-removable retainers.

Important: if the retainer is broken or peeled off even from one tooth, you need to start using a removable retention device on this jaw for 12 hours a day. And urgently make an appointment with your orthodontist!
